Gyan Parida - Chairman Of The Board/President/CEO, SAEC


As founder and president of SAEC, Dr. Parida has grown the club from one person to 12, 700 members making SAEC the fastest growing such organization in the country. Over the last two and half years Dr. Parida has evaluated and presented more than 100 companies to venture capitalists and angel investors. Dr. Parida's contribution to the entrepreneural and investor community in the country and particualrly to New York tri-state area has been profund to say the least. For his work and leadership Dr. Parida was honored as one of the three National Finalist for the "2002 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Award" the highest business award (aka Oscar of Business) in the world. Dr. Parida was also choosen for the Kauffman Supporter of Entrepreneurship Award. Dr. Parida has been an acdemician, researcher, private investor, venter advisor, speaker and moderator in many entrepreneur/investor conferences.

Dr. Parida earned his MBA in strategy and Investment from the University of Iowa and his Ph.D. in Physical and Mathematical Chemistry from the University of Delhi. He also completed a program in International Business from the University of Manchester, England and an Executive Management program in Internet strategy from Sloan School of Management at MIT.

Lawrence E. Phillips - Managing Director Primedia Ventures

Mr. Phillips has led over 20 investments in his five years of venture capital experience, several of which are now public or which have been sold to public companies. Prior to forming PRIMEDIA Ventures, Mr. Phillips founded an Internet division for PRIMEDIA's Magazine Group. Mr. Phillips holds an A.B. from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Jerry Colonna - Senior Advisor and General Partner, JPMorgan Partners

Mr. Colonna is a General Partner in the Telecommunications, Media and Technology area. Prior to co-founding Flatiron Partners, JPMP's affiliated investment program in 1996, Jerry Colonna was a founding partner of CMG@Ventures. Previously, Mr. Colonna worked for nearly ten years for CMP Media Inc. At CMP, Mr. Colonna served as Director for Editorial Technology, becoming the founding director of the company's Interactive Media Group in 1994. From 1985 to 1993, he served in a variety of roles at InformationWeek, including a three-year stint as Editor. Mr. Colonna currently serves on the boards of directors of Planet Out Partners Inc., Outerforce Inc., and ProfitLogic Inc. Mr. Colonna also serves on the boards of a number of non-profit organizations including, Mouse Inc. and Npower NY and is co-Executive Director of NYC2012, the New York Olympic Games bid committee.
Babak Yaghmaie (Bo) - Partner, Pillsbury Winthrop

Mr. Yaghmaie is a corporate and securities partner and co-head of the firm's Private Equity Practice Team. Mr. Yaghmaie’s practice entails the representation of private and publicly-held emerging growth high technology and life science companies, leading investment banks and venture capital funds, with a particular focus on private placements and venture financings, public offerings of equity and debt securities, and mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. Yaghmaie has been involved in many of the leading corporate and financing technology transactions in the New York area, and regularly represents numerous venture-backed companies and venture capital funds. In addition, Mr. Yaghmaie has represented both issuers and underwriters in more than 30 public offerings by venture-backed issuers across a variety of industries, including public offerings by Albany Molecular Research, Best Software, Emcore, Globix, Hologic, IDX, Innovasive Devices, Knight/Trimark, Media Metrix, Myriad Genetics, Predictive Systems, StarMedia, Trimeris, Technitrol and Tellium.

Mr. Yaghmaie has served as counsel to many leading investment banks, including Credit Suisse First Boston, Deutsche Bank Securities, Goldman Sachs, Hambrecht & Quist, Morgan Stanley, Robertson Stephens and SG Cowen.

Mr. Yaghmaie is a faculty member of the Practicing Law Institute and has authored the chapter in the Securities Filings volume entitled, "Compliance with the Securities Act in the Acquisition Context." Mr. Yaghmaie is amongst the authors of the widely-used book, Venture Capital & Public Offering Negotiation, published by Aspen Law & Business. He is also a senior contributing editor of VC Experts' Venture Capital Encyclopedia, and a member of the Advisory Boards of the Silicon Alley Entrepreneurs Club, VC 2003 and the Young Venture Capital Society.

Before joining Pillsbury Winthrop, Mr. Yaghmaie was a co-founding partner of the New York office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

John F. Delany - Partner, Morrison & Foerster LLP

Mr. Delaney serves as Co-Chair of the firm's Technology Transactions Group. He represents clients ranging from "Silicon Alley" start-ups to Fortune 1000 companies. Mr. Delaney has been featured on the cover of The American Lawyer as one of the "lawyers for the new economy" and on the cover of New York Lawyer as one of fifteen lawyers 40 and under "shaping the law for the 21st Century." Crain's New York Business recently included him in its "Technology 100," a list of individuals "likely to shape the direction and growth of New York's economy for years to come."
